Comparison
Worthune vs Orion
Orion is an all-in-one platform for advisory firms — CRM, planning, portfolio accounting, trading, compliance, and a white-labeled client portal — sold in annual tiers with published starting prices. Worthune does one layer of that: a versioned household record and planning engine that your own product owns through a public API, with drift webhooks, white-label embeds, a published monthly price, and a free sandbox. A firm consolidating its operations should look at Orion. A firm or platform building its own client experience should compare the household layer.

| Worthune | Orion | |
|---|---|---|
| How it is delivered | REST API, MCP server, and a one-script-tag embed | A web platform spanning CRM, planning, portfolio accounting, trading, and compliance, a client portal and mobile app, and an API |
| How households are modeled | A versioned household record the customer's product owns through the API: members, accounts, incomes, and obligations, re-projected on change, with signed webhooks when a stored plan's numbers drift and a decision history per household | Households are portfolio records the API can create, read, and update, alongside registrations, accounts, and assets, with a household overview in Orion Connect |
| Programmatic API | Yes — REST and MCP, no key required for the three sample models | Yes — a REST API; full documentation requires API credentials, available on request through Orion |
| Client-facing portal or app | No app of our own; household embeds and a white-label reference build ship under the customer's brand, with attribution removal on Growth | Yes — white-labeled and fully branded to the advisor firm (“Clients see your firm. Not Orion.”), in all three tiers |
| Account aggregation | No — Worthune does not aggregate accounts or connect custodial feeds; households are kept current by bulk import of the customer's aggregator or custodian exports, with a dry run | Not verified(not checked yet) |
| MCP server for AI assistants | Yes — a remote MCP server; three models keyless, household and Lodestar tools with a key, including a free sandbox key | Yes — a connector giving Claude access to Orion Connect portfolio data and Redtail CRM records, announced September 2026 |
| Pricing model | Subscription; three models free with attribution, no per-run metering | Annual pricing across three packaged tiers, Foundation, Essentials, and Advantage, each including the client portal |
| Entry price | Free for three models; $495/month for the full catalog | Tiers start at $13,000, $18,000, and $28,000 a year |
| Track record, as published | A new company with a small team and no published customer list | Reports $6.8T in advisor-managed assets administered as of September 30, 2026, and 25+ years in the market |
Where Orion is stronger
One vendor for the whole back office
Orion covers CRM, portfolio accounting, billing, trading, compliance, planning, and a branded client portal in one system, administers a very large asset base (see the track-record row), and publishes what its tiers cost. A firm that wants to run its practice on one connected platform is buying something Worthune does not offer at all: we have no accounting, trading, billing, or CRM.
When Worthune is the wrong choice
If you need portfolio accounting, trading, or billing
Worthune does not reconcile custodial data, report performance, trade, rebalance, or bill. If those are the job, Orion or a platform like it is the right purchase, and Worthune would at most sit beside it as the planning and household layer under a client experience you build.
Our case
Where we think the difference actually matters
This section is our opinion rather than sourced fact, and it is marked that way on purpose — the table above is what a source URL can settle, and this is what it cannot.
The household as a record your product owns
Members, accounts, incomes, and obligations in one versioned document with an id, edited by PATCH, re-projected on change, and kept with a decision history. Your software reads and writes it directly.
Told when the plan stops being true
Signed webhooks fire when a stored household's projected numbers drift after new data or a rule change, so the advisor hears about it before the client does.
Self-serve from the first day
Public API reference, OpenAPI document, SDKs, and MCP tools, with a free sandbox key by email. Engineering can build against it before anyone signs anything.
A different price shape
Monthly plans priced by active households, with no seats and no metering on calls. It is not a like-for-like comparison with an all-in-one platform, because it is not one.
Questions
Common questions
- What does Orion cost?
- Orion publishes annual starting prices for its three packaged tiers on its client portal page, each including the portal. The figures are in the table above with the source and check date.
- Does Orion have an API?
- Yes. Households are among the records its REST API can create and update. Its quick-start page says the full documentation requires API credentials, which are available on request.
- Can Worthune replace Orion?
- Not as a whole. Worthune has no portfolio accounting, trading, billing, or CRM. It can replace the household and planning layer under a client experience you build yourself, delivered under your brand.
- Does Worthune aggregate client accounts?
- No. Households are kept current by bulk import of your aggregator or custodian exports, with a dry run that lists every error before anything is written. If you need aggregation itself, you need an aggregator alongside us.
